This is a picture of me with my Great Aunt Lynn, from October 19,
2006. She brought me a talking book, which includes cows, and I really
like it, especially the cows. I’m glad that I got to meet her. She was
nice!

OK, so Jack didn’t write that, but it’s true. He’s only 16 months old
now, but I believe that in the future he will be glad that he met his
Great Aunt Lynn. I cherish this picture of them, and am so sad that
there won’t be any future meetings. Aunt Lynn was an amazing aunt! She
was so sweet! Because the family visited often when I was young, I can
remember her from a child’s perspective. I felt lucky to get to know
her and my Uncle Joe so well during the years that we lived in New
Hampshire. Leaving them was one of the more difficult parts of coming
back to California. I went to Rhode Island without Max a few times, and
Aunt Lynn would make visiting her top priority. She and Uncle Joe both
loved to show me places in Rhode Island, like the Newport Mansions. I
was able to tour one of them with Aunt Lynn one Christmas season. I’m
fortunate to have many positive, loving memories of her. Knowing that
she’s not going to be in New England the next time we come to visit, or
that we won’t see her at the next wedding, there is definitely an empty
space. I loved her very much! She’s a person I really wanted my kids to
know, because of her gentle spirit, genuine hospitality, diverse
interests, and sweet nature. I miss her, for me and for them.
